About The Bag Icon

The Bag Icon is a DTC brand that offers “luxury iconic handbags” at affordable prices. Based out of Texas, USA, their mission is to sell high-quality leather handbags to consumers who want to own luxury handbags without the heavy price tag that usually accompanies them. Their goal is to help conscious consumers who seek style without sacrificing their bank account.

What’s also interesting about The Bag Icon is that the names of its collections are inspired by iconic women throughout history. Through its handbags, the brand celebrates and honours the achievements of these incredible women. Unlike other DTC brands, The Bag Icon also encourages its customers to spend their money wisely. It sells its bags internationally via its Shopify website.

Their strengths are-

  1. High-quality, stylish bags at affordable prices
  2. A strong online community, with over 38,000 followers on Instagram alone
  3. Founder-led storytelling that describes each product and its creation process
  4. Features in famous fashion magazines like Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and Vanity Fair

The Challenge

The Bag Icon wanted to

  • Create a premium and immersive shopping experience on their website to match their premium products
  • Leverage their social media presence and founder’s videos to drive substantial sales
  • Boost revenue by improving the conversion rate on their website

The brand has a strong community on Instagram and has been mentioned in magazines like Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and Vanity Fair. The founder, Seneca Connor, consistently uploads videos about the creation process of their handbags. This gives the audience a deeper understanding of the products and builds connection and trust. The Bag Icon wanted to channel this engagement and recognition into website sales.

The Whatmore Solution

The solution was simple- embed their social media videos on their website for an interactive shopping experience. The Bag Icon teamed up with Whatmore to do this. After a quick demo, we integrated Whatmore with their Shopify website. This helped the brand show new product launches and founder videos on its website. These videos were shoppable, meaning they had a ‘Buy Now’ or ‘Add to Cart’ button, allowing visitors to buy the product featured in the video directly from the video itself.

Here’s how they looked on their website.

Using Whatmore’s shoppable videos had many benefits for the brand. Some of which were

  1. A strong connection with customers

The Bag Icon used shoppable videos to highlight new launches, product features, and user-generated content. This raw and authentic storytelling created a strong connection with their customers.

  1. Shorter buying process

The ‘Add to cart’ and ‘Shop Now’ buttons reduced the time needed to buy a product, increasing the chances of purchase.

  1. Premium shopping experience

The brand sells bags that cost around $500. Using shoppable videos created a more immersive and premium shopping experience aligned with the brand’s premium product.

  1. Increased revenue

The Bag Icon used videos to showcase its products from all angles. This, combined with the faster buying process increased the overall revenue.
